About Us
Who We Are - Highpoint Farm is home to Bev and Ken Chambers, 2 livestock guard dogs (Ramona & Daisy), 1 donkey (Storybook Willie), and varying numbers of Nigerian Dwarf goats.
Ken is a retired electronics engineer and a full-time fixer-upper while Bev retired after 20 years with Abbott Laboratories and is now a full-time goat-tender and gardener. Daisy, the Great Pyrenees, and Ramona, the Great Pyr/Anatolian cross protect everyone and everything; and Willie, the donkey, is supposed to guard the herd from coyotes, but he's more concerned with eating and playing with the kids or "helping" Ken with chores around the property.
Where We Are - Denton, Texas is about 40 miles north of the Dallas-Ft.Worth metroplex. We have a truly unique location in that
we have 5 acres of farm within the city limits but we are surrounded by 200 acres of undeveloped mesquite groves on our East, South and West sides and acres of cattle ranch on our north. Our west and north property lines are the actual city limits in this area. The entire 5 acres is situated on a hill that slopes from north to south, hence the farm name. The four acres of pasture are divided into 4 smaller pastures to accommodate bucks, breeding pens, kidding pens, and general goat grazing. We have a small pond in one of the larger pastures which we use to water the grazing pastures during times of drought and in the winter we have guest ducks that stay with us. There are numerous mesquite trees in all the pastures and because of their unique shape, the goats love to climb them. One of my husband's official duties is to keep the tree limbs trimmed back so that the bucks don't walk out on them and jump into the doe pastures (which has happened before).
